Chief Julius Bokoru, Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and ex-Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, has condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for sealing his principal’s Maitama residence in Abuja. In a strongly worded statement, Bokoru said the operation was carried out “without a single letter, without a subpoena, without a warrant, without notification,” describing it as a blatant disregard for lawful procedure.
He accused the EFCC of carrying out the action with “no courtesy, no procedure, no humanity,” calling the intrusion an affront to decency and a worrying attack on the principles expected of institutions that claim to act in the national interest. According to him, the officers stormed the property in an “aggressive intrusion” that left residents and staff alarmed.
Bokoru further alleged that EFCC operatives spray-painted the walls of Sylva’s residence in bold red, marking it with “EFCC — Keep Off” as though it belonged to a fugitive rather than a former governor and minister. He described the act as troubling and provocative, raising questions about the commission’s methods and motives. Has the EFCC crossed the line in its latest operation?
