The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed claims that Yahaya Bello’s renewed political activities within the All Progressives Congress (APC) could influence the outcome or pace of his ongoing criminal trials.
Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC’s Director of Public Affairs, made the statement on Monday during the Arise News breakfast show. He stressed that Bello’s involvement in party affairs and his declared senatorial ambition are irrelevant to the legal cases currently before the courts.
Uwujaren reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensuring that all cases are handled fairly, without political interference, underscoring the independence of the judiciary in Nigeria.
The EFCC’s clarification comes amid speculation that the former Kogi State governor’s growing political profile could impact his prosecution, a notion the commission firmly rejected.
