Ekiti State University Gets New Vice Chancellor

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has appointed Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele as the new Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. This appointment, which follows Ayodele’s previous role as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), will take effect on August 20, 2024.

According to a statement from the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, Professor Ayodele, a specialist in Education Management, succeeds Prof. Edward Olanipekun, whose term concludes on August 20, 2024.

Professor Ayodele, born on August 13, 1963, in Ikere-Ekiti, began his education at Annunciation School in Ikere-Ekiti before attending the Ondo State College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti, where he earned his Nigeria Certificate in Education between 1982 and 1985. He later obtained a First Class Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in Economics from Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University) in 1992.

He further pursued a Master’s degree in Education Management from the University of Ibadan in 1997 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education Management from the same institution in 2000.

Prof. Ayodele began his academic career as a Graduate Assistant at Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University) in 1995 and achieved the rank of Professor in 2012. His roles at the university have included Assistant Director of Affiliate Programmes (2006-2008), Acting Head of the Department of Educational Foundations and Management (2010-2012), Dean of the Faculty of Education (2018-2020), Director of the Directorate of Continuing Education Programmes/Distance Learning (2020-2022), and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) from 2022 to the present.

Governor Oyebanji, who serves as the Visitor to the University, has encouraged Professor Ayodele to leverage his extensive academic and administrative experience to enhance the University’s standing as a world-class institution. The Governor also extended his gratitude to the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, for his dedicated service and wished him success in his future endeavors.
