Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has commended the people of Owerri for their warmth and hospitality, stressing that his two-day visit to the city achieved its goal of promoting national unity and progress.

In a statement issued by his media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, El-Rufai described the visit as “great,” noting a consistent pattern of openness and welcome that he experienced throughout his stay. He said he was overwhelmed by the grace and dignity displayed by the institutions and personalities that hosted him, describing it as an exemplary gesture of national cohesion.

El-Rufai expressed gratitude to the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri for inviting him to deliver the 2025 Odenigbo Lecture, and to the Anglican Diocese of Egbu for the opportunity to address its women’s conference. He also acknowledged the hospitality of His Highness, Eze Stephen Kemjika Agumanu of Nekede, and highlighted an interactive session on his first night as a memorable moment.

He further appreciated the presence of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, who attended one of the events despite being unwell. Concluding his visit, El-Rufai said Owerri had been kind and open, leaving him and his team with lasting memories.
