The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has announced the cancellation of the Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebration due to security concerns in the state.
The Emir made this declaration on Wednesday night at his Nasarawa Mini Palace in Kano while addressing journalists.
Durbar Cancellation Prioritizes Peace and Stability
Emir Bayero emphasized that the peaceful coexistence of Kano residents takes precedence over the annual Durbar celebration, which was initially set to coincide with his fifth anniversary on the throne.
He stated that the decision followed consultations with respected Islamic clerics, elders, stakeholders, and members of his council, who advised that canceling the event would help maintain peace and security in the state.
Emir’s Message to the People of Kano
The Emir urged Kano residents to observe the Sallah festivities peacefully, emphasizing the importance of spending time with family and friends during the celebration.
He prayed for Allah’s blessings and mercy in the holy month of Ramadan, expressing hope that the people of Kano would receive forgiveness and divine grace.
Security and Political Context in Kano
The decision to cancel the Durbar comes amid heightened security concerns and growing political tensions surrounding the Kano emirship dispute. Analysts warn that unresolved leadership struggles within the state could lead to instability if not properly managed.
