Popular entertainer and entrepreneur Obinna Simon, widely known as MC Tagwaye, has declared his intention to run for the chairmanship of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) set to conduct the AMAC chairmanship election between late 2025 and early 2026, alongside the Anambra governorship election and various by-elections, MC Tagwaye announced his candidacy over the weekend with the campaign slogan, “AMAC Must Be Better Again.”

“I wish to formally announce my interest to run for the office of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman,” he wrote in a social media post.

Well known among young voters in the Federal Capital Territory, Tagwaye said his decision was driven by overwhelming calls from AMAC residents.

“I am running for this office because the good people of AMAC have called on me to serve. I know the values I bring to the table to make AMAC great again—enhancing security, job creation, digitizing the city center, ensuring a rapid security response system, implementing close visual monitoring and communication networks, upgrading schools and hospitals, guaranteeing prompt payment of primary school teachers’ entitlements, and improving the welfare of all AMAC workers,” he stated.

Beyond entertainment, MC Tagwaye is known for empowering young people and supporting humanitarian causes. He has awarded scholarships, renovated schools, and provided financial aid and relief materials to residents in need.

The primary election is scheduled for June 2025, with the general election set for February 2026. In the coming days, Tagwaye plans to announce the political party under which he will contest.
