Enugu State is set to make a major leap in its public transportation system as the government announces the launch of 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and the commissioning of five modern bus terminals on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

The initiative, part of a broader effort to modernize and green the state’s urban transport, includes two bus terminals at Holy Ghost and one each at Nsukka, Abakpa, and Gariki.

Governor Peter Mbah’s administration procured a total of 200 CNG-powered buses, with the first 100 set to begin operations immediately after the commissioning. Officials say the CNG fleet will help reduce transportation costs, cut carbon emissions, and provide safer, more reliable travel for residents and visitors.

According to the state government, the project aligns with its “Smart Transport Programme,” aimed at easing congestion, enhancing commuter experience, and promoting cleaner energy use in public mobility.

The launch ceremony is expected to attract key government officials, transport stakeholders, and members of the public.
