Ethiopian Airlines has officially emerged as Nigeria’s largest international carrier, strengthening its position as a leading player in Africa’s aviation industry. The airline now operates 34 weekly flights across major Nigerian cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, and Kano, making it the most active foreign airline in the country.

The expansion follows the launch of new passenger services between Abuja and Addis Ababa, a move aimed at improving connectivity between the two nations and offering Nigerian travelers broader access to international destinations through Ethiopian’s Addis Ababa hub.

Speaking on the development, the airline’s Area Manager for Nigeria reaffirmed Ethiopian’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Nigeria. “Our continued expansion reflects Ethiopia’s confidence in Nigeria’s growing aviation and economic potential,” the official noted.

Ethiopian Airlines operates one of Africa’s youngest fleets, featuring modern aircraft such as the Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner, ensuring comfort, efficiency, and reliability for passengers.

Industry analysts say the airline’s growth in Nigeria underscores Addis Ababa’s strategic role as a continental aviation hub and highlights Ethiopia’s growing influence in Africa’s air transport sector.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced plans to introduce a $11.5 levy on international tickets starting December 1, 2025, a policy expected to impact flight fares across carriers operating in the country.

With its increasing number of routes, fleet modernization, and strong operational performance, Ethiopian Airlines is poised to maintain its lead in Nigeria’s international aviation market further solidifying its reputation as Africa’s flagship carrier. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
