
Nollywood actress and box office sensation Funke Akindele has achieved yet another impressive milestone as her latest film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, grossed over N1.3 billion within just three weeks.
In a post on X.com on Monday, Akindele shared that the film has become the second Nollywood title to surpass the N1 billion mark in the past 12 months, reaching a cumulative total of ₦1,034,091,220.
Notably, Everybody Loves Jenifa has made history by becoming the fastest Nollywood film to hit the N1 billion threshold, achieving this feat in only 19 days.
The film has dominated the December box office, accounting for nearly 40% of the total revenue with 202,604 admissions.
Akindele also celebrated her success as the “highest-grossing producer and director” in Nollywood, holding the record for the “top four highest-grossing Nollywood films.”
In expressing her gratitude, Akindele wrote, “God did! Thank you, Jenifans, for supporting Everybody Loves Jenifa! We couldn’t have gotten here without you.”
She continued, “We’re excited for what’s to come with this massive win. Keep watching in cinemas nationwide!”
The success of Everybody Loves Jenifa extends beyond Nigeria. Just eight days after its international debut on December 20, the film earned an impressive $194,560 (approximately N300 million) across various countries outside Africa, including the UK, US, Canada, and others.
Akindele, known for her box office achievements, previously broke records with Omo Ghetto: The Saga, which remains the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time, with over ₦1.5 billion in earnings. Earlier in 2024, her film A Tribe Called Judah also made waves, becoming the first Nollywood title to gross ₦1 billion within 21 days of release.
In Everybody Loves Jenifa, Akindele reprises her beloved character Jenifa, delivering the humour, drama, and suspense that fans have come to adore.
