Family Challenges Exclusion from Royal Lineage in Awujale Succession

Share

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode has formally initiated the selection process for the next Awujale of Ijebuland, following the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona. Adhering to traditional customs, the family commenced the process by performing the Gbedu drum ceremony, signaling their readiness to present a candidate for the throne. The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is next in line to produce the Awujale, as per the established rotational system among the four ruling houses: Gbelegbuwa, Anikinaiya, Fusengbuwa, and Fidipote.

However, the selection process has faced opposition from some members of the Fusengbuwa family who claim exclusion from the royal lineage. They argue that the current leadership of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House does not represent all branches of the family and that their ancestral rights are being overlooked. These dissenting members have threatened legal action if their concerns are not addressed. ()

The situation has raised tensions within the community, with calls for a transparent and inclusive process to ensure that all eligible branches of the Fusengbuwa family have a voice in the selection of the next Awujale. As the succession process unfolds, it remains to be seen how these disputes will be resolved and who will ultimately ascend to the revered throne of Ijebuland.
