The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved over ₦400 billion for new and revised road projects aimed at boosting infrastructure and improving connectivity across Nigeria.

The approval followed memos presented by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, at the FEC meeting chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Umahi said the Council considered 11 memos nine for revising inherited contracts and two for new projects. He noted that the adjustments reflect rising costs of materials and design upgrades to ensure durability.

Key Projects

Lagos–Ibadan Expressway (Phase II, Section II): ₦43 billion for repairs, underpasses, and ramps.

Mushin–NNPC–Apapa–Oshodi Expressway: Revised from ₦11 billion to ₦19 billion.

Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway (Section III): 162.97 km at ₦3.39 billion per kilometre.

All projects will use rigid concrete pavement to extend lifespan and reduce maintenance costs.

The initiative is expected to ease transport challenges, reduce travel time, and stimulate trade and investment. Umahi said the move underscores the government’s commitment to modern, durable infrastructure that supports economic growth. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
