FEC Approves N679 Billion for Road Projects Across Multiple States

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved 13 contracts worth N679 billion for the Ministry of Works to support road rehabilitation and new construction across several states. The approvals include rescoping, contract variations, and new projects to align infrastructure development with available funding.

Following the FEC meeting, Minister of Works Dave Umahi emphasized the government’s priority on completing existing projects while initiating new ones where necessary.

Key Approved Projects:

  • Aakalari-Ukuk Road, Bauchi State: Phase 1 will be completed in six months at a cost of N11.278 billion.
  • Uturu-Isuikwuato-Akara Road, Abia State: Phase 1 set for six months, valued at N5.926 billion.
  • Zaria-Ukui-Kolomani Road (Kaduna & Katsina States): A major new project awarded to MotherCat Nigeria Limited, valued at N198 billion with a 36-month completion timeline.
  • Kano-Maiduguri Road Rehabilitation: The previously terminated section from Dantata Sowo is reassigned to Tractor Nigeria Limited for N128.395 billion, with an 18-month duration.
  • Bagudu Road, Kebbi State: A 57-kilometer project approved for N2.645 billion.
  • Obanewi-Arisizogu-Okiwe Road (Imo & Anambra States): Phase 1 of the rehabilitation will cost N8.45 billion over six months.

Additionally, a correction was made for the Enyi-Ilawi-Ekiti Road project. Initially approved at N13.736 billion, FEC adjusted the contract sum to N15.626 billion after identifying an error in the earlier estimate.

Additional Contracts:

  • Ilogu Road (Kwara & Osun States): N7.556 billion (six-month duration).
  • Wukari-Akwana Road, Taraba State: N12.615 billion (12-month duration).
  • Bida-Lapaya-Lambda Road, Niger State: N39.493 billion (Phase One, six-month duration).
  • Gada-Zamazuru-Gamji Road, Kebbi State: N11.976 billion (six-month duration).
  • Kamakish Road, Oyo State: N12.35 billion (12-month duration).
  • Aba-Ikot Ekpene Road Dualisation: CGC Nigeria Limited awarded N30 billion for Phase One.

Other Approvals and Adjustments:

FEC also approved an adjustment to the Outer Marina Shore Protection Project in Lagos, increasing its budget from N144 billion to N176 billion. The revision now includes additional shoreline protection for the Nigerian Navy and other federal infrastructure.

The Charm-Numan Road and Bridge Project, previously impacted by severe flooding in October 2024, has also been revised to ensure timely completion.

Minister Umahi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing inherited projects, effectively utilizing available funds, and protecting infrastructure from environmental damage. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding completed works, particularly roads with binder courses vulnerable to rain damage.

“All inherited projects must be prioritized based on available funds,” he stated, ensuring all budgeted funds are directed toward preserving and completing critical infrastructure.
