The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has received a ₦1 billion grant from the Federal Government through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to boost its Agricultural Commercial Farm.

The grant, part of TETFund’s 2025 Special Intervention Programme, aims to expand FUTA’s commercial-scale farming and strengthen national food security efforts.

FUTA’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, described the funding as “a major boost to the university’s agricultural innovation efforts,” assuring that it will be used judiciously for its intended purpose.

The university plans to enhance its vegetable production, palm plantation, and greenhouse projects, while continuing research on improved crop varieties such as F1 bell pepper and tomato species developed at its Teaching and Research Farm.

The initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s push to make tertiary institutions key drivers of research-based agriculture and food sufficiency. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
