The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Monday, September 16, 2024, as a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, which marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). This announcement was made by Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, on behalf of the government.
In the statement, the minister congratulated the Muslim Ummah both in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the occasion, urging them and all Nigerians to embrace the values of patience, sacrifice, and resilience. He emphasized the importance of using the holiday period to reflect on these virtues and to pray for enduring peace and the progress of Nigeria as a more equitable nation.
