In a recent ruling, the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an injunction barring the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from further disbursing financial allocations to the Rivers State government. This ruling will remain in effect until a lawful appropriation act is passed by a legitimately constituted Rivers State House of Assembly.

The decision highlights the judiciary’s stance on upholding legislative oversight and the lawful allocation of state funds. According to the court, this action aims to ensure that public funds are managed in alignment with statutory procedures and that governmental appropriations are transparently reviewed and approved by a properly convened legislative body.

The court’s directive serves as a significant reminder of the critical role that legislative due process plays in the governance of state resources. It underscores the judiciary’s commitment to enforcing fiscal responsibility and accountability across government tiers.
