The Federal Government has endorsed the Abuja Cooperative City Project, a major housing initiative aimed at providing 10,000 affordable homes for federal workers and cooperative members. The project aligns with the FG’s Renewed Hope Affordable Housing Agenda, which focuses on delivering quality housing across the country.
Located on a 700-hectare site in Jibi Town along the Kubwa Expressway, the development will feature a mix of one- to five-bedroom homes, energy-efficient designs, landscaped green areas, schools, markets, health centers, and a clean-energy bus service.
The project was advanced at a Stakeholder Coordination Meeting involving cooperative executives, mortgage finance partners, and senior housing officials. It has received support from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.
Officials from participating cooperatives, including the CBN, FIRS, NNPC, Police Service Commission, and Federal Judicial Service Commission, have pledged to mobilize members to subscribe once mortgage application forms are released. The initiative is expected to generate thousands of jobs and strengthen local supply chains.
