The Federal Government has commenced the nationwide distribution of free Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) commodities valued at ₦2.9 billion, in a move aimed at reducing preventable deaths among mothers and newborns.

Flagging off the initiative in Abuja, the Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Muyi Aina, said the commodities will be distributed across 10 states, 80 local government areas, and 1,936 primary healthcare facilities. He explained that the supplies will be supported by health worker training, facility upgrades, and strengthened supply chains to ensure efficiency.

According to the distribution framework, the North-West will receive 60 percent of the commodities, the North-East 34 percent, while the remaining supplies will go to the North-Central and South-East zones. Development partners including WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, and the Gates Foundation praised the intervention, describing it as a major step towards saving lives and improving maternal and child health outcomes nationwide.
