The previously scheduled special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari has been canceled, following the confirmation of his state funeral in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), the decision to cancel the session was taken to allow dignitaries and government officials to attend the funeral rites in the former president’s hometown.

A new date for the postponed FEC session will be announced after the funeral proceedings have concluded, the OSGF noted.

The late President Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State (1983–1985) and later as two-term civilian President (2015–2023), passed away recently after a period of illness.

National mourning activities are currently ongoing, with tributes pouring in from across the country and beyond.
