The Federal Government has successfully completed 135 road construction projects across Northern Nigeria, according to the Minister of Transportation, Saidu Ahmed Alkali. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the current administration’s push to revamp national infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during a two-day interactive session organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Abuja, Minister Alkali emphasized the scale and impact of the government’s transport initiatives. In addition to the 135 completed road projects, he disclosed that:

216 road projects are currently under construction across the northern region.

312 road maintenance projects have been completed, with an additional 50 ongoing.

Major legacy projects such as the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, Calabar–Abuja Superhighway, and Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road are in various stages of development.

In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) alone, 14 road projects have been completed and inaugurated, alongside key infrastructure upgrades including:

Expansion of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project

Rehabilitation of primary and secondary schools

Delivery of three world-class bus terminals

“These projects demonstrate our administration’s firm commitment to building reliable transport infrastructure that supports economic growth, social development, and national integration,” Alkali said.

The Minister reiterated that these roadworks and transport initiatives are designed to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, boost regional trade, and ensure safer mobility for all Nigerians.

The event drew participation from regional leaders, stakeholders in the transport sector, and policy experts, who commended the government’s efforts and called for sustained investment in infrastructure.
