The Federal Government has inaugurated the Governing Board of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), tasking members with strengthening governance, ensuring accountability, and protecting the nation’s pension assets under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The ceremony saw Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), swear in the new board on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Akume described the board’s role as one of national importance, emphasizing that its work must reinforce public confidence and maintain high standards of integrity and transparency.

He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to a transparent, resilient, and trusted pension system that guarantees retirees receive their benefits with dignity and on time. Akume also warned board members against interfering with operational management, stressing that effective governance requires a clear distinction between oversight and day‑to‑day administration.

The new board, chaired by Dr. Opeyemi Agbaje, includes commissioners responsible for technical, inspectorate, finance, and administration portfolios. Agbaje pledged commitment to corporate governance, integrity, and collaboration with the Commission’s management to drive institutional success and leverage pension funds for national development.
