FG Justifies Delay in Prosecuting Alleged Terrorism Financiers

The Federal Government says the ongoing delay in prosecuting suspected terrorism financiers is due to the complexity and sensitivity of the investigations.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, explained that prosecution requires solid, admissible evidence and cannot be rushed, adding that it is “not as simplistic” as merely having a list of suspects.

Idris noted that the government has recorded wider security gains, claiming that since President Bola Tinubu took office, over 13,500 criminals have been neutralised and more than 17,000 arrested, with some already facing trial or convicted.

He also pointed to ongoing international cooperation aimed at tracking cross-border terror financing networks.

Security agencies, including the DSS, have highlighted legal and procedural hurdles as factors slowing some terrorism-related trials.

Despite public pressure for quicker action, the government insists prosecutions will only proceed when investigations are conclusive and backed by incontrovertible evidence. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
