The Federal Government has launched the National Digital Trustmark, a certification initiative designed to enhance security, transparency, and credibility in Nigeria’s growing online business environment.
The initiative, spearheaded by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), aims to establish a verifiable trust seal for digital businesses operating in the country.
Speaking at the launch, the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, said the Digital Trustmark would help curb online fraud, identity theft, and other cybercrimes while improving consumer confidence in e-commerce transactions. He noted that the certification would serve as a mark of compliance with national standards on data protection, cybersecurity, and operational transparency.
The new certification system will be renewable annually and is expected to promote safer digital interactions, foster accountability among online merchants, and drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s digital economy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
