The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched Nigeria’s first-ever online gas trading, clearing, and settlement platform, marking a major step toward reforming the nation’s gas market.

Known as the Gas Trading Licence, Clearing House, and Settlement Authorization Platform, the new system is designed to enhance transparency, efficiency, and competitiveness within the sector.

With this launch, Nigeria has officially commenced formal and regulated gas trading, moving away from the long-standing practice of opaque, bilateral transactions. The platform now provides a structured marketplace where prices, transactions, and payments are visible, standardized, and enforceable.

Government officials say the innovation will strengthen investor confidence, improve revenue assurance, and support the broader national objectives of expanding domestic gas utilisation and powering economic growth.
