The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital and a 15,000-cattle ranch project in Enugu State, marking a significant milestone in the country’s livestock development agenda.

The initiative, part of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L‑PRES), aims to enhance animal health services and improve livestock production nationwide. The veterinary hospital will provide comprehensive animal healthcare, including vaccinations, disease management, and clinical services, while the ranch project is expected to promote large-scale, organized cattle rearing.

Officials say the projects will contribute to increased meat production, improved food security, and the modernization of Nigeria’s livestock sector, transitioning it from traditional open-grazing systems to structured ranch-based operations.

This development aligns with the FG’s broader efforts to establish model veterinary hospitals across 20 states, backed by the 2025 national budget allocations for animal health, vaccination campaigns, disease surveillance, and infrastructure upgrades.

The commissioning of these projects underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening livestock production and enhancing the welfare of animals across the country. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
