The Federal Government has formalised a strategic partnership between the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Population Commission (NPC) to integrate birth registration and demographic data into Nigeria’s school enrollment and education planning systems.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, said credible population data is critical to effective education planning, including rational school siting, balanced teacher deployment, accurate enrollment projections, and equitable allocation of resources nationwide.

Also present at the engagement was the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, who reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening data-driven reforms and expanding access to quality education across the country.

Under the new arrangement, the partnership will expand nationwide access to birth registration services, deploy digital integration to enhance transparency, and enable early tracking of enrollment patterns and school dropouts. Both institutions agreed to establish a Joint Technical Working Group to harmonise verification procedures and ensure database interoperability, reinforcing the Federal Government’s commitment to evidence-based education reform and inclusive national development.
