Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to partnering with the 36 states of Nigeria to address the challenges posed by flooding and other natural disasters. He noted that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is dedicated to ensuring that subnational governments receive the necessary support to tackle these crises.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa during a visit from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Shettima explained that President Tinubu recently approved N3 billion for each state to address natural disasters such as flooding. This financial support is intended to empower states and provide them with a sense of belonging in managing such emergencies.

During the meeting, which followed a devastating flood in Maiduguri, Borno State, caused by the collapse of a dam, Shettima described the disaster as a “national calamity” affecting not just Borno but the entire country.

“The Borno flood disaster is a tragedy that has befallen the nation, not just the state,” Shettima said, underscoring the administration’s commitment to providing relief and preventing future occurrences.
