The Federal Government has intensified its skills development initiatives, with more than 100,000 Nigerians currently enrolled in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes nationwide. The move is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to equip citizens with industry-relevant skills and reduce unemployment.
According to the Ministry of Education, trainees are participating in various programmes across federal and state technical colleges, skills training centres, and accredited vocational institutions. This cohort is the first of a larger group expected to grow to 250,000 learners in the coming months.
Trainees are receiving stipends to support them during their training. The programmes cover essential trades such as industrial mechanics, electrical installation, welding and fabrication, solar system installation, refrigeration and HVAC, ICT, and other technical vocations tailored to national development needs.
The Ministry revealed that the government plans to train over one million Nigerians over the next two years, reinforcing efforts to develop a skilled workforce capable of meeting both local and global industry demands.
