FG Reports Decline in Food Prices Amid Agricultural Reforms

Share

The Federal Government says food prices are beginning to drop across several markets, thanks to targeted agricultural reforms and market interventions. Agriculture Minister Abubakar Kyari, speaking at the 47th National Council on Agriculture and Food Security meeting, noted:

“We are already witnessing a decline in food prices a reflection of ongoing targeted market interventions.”

Key measures driving the trend include improved access to quality seeds and fertilizers, mechanisation, the National Agricultural Growth Scheme‑Agro‑Pocket (NAGS‑AP), and the Nigeria Postharvest Systems Transformation Programme (NiPHaST). The Bank of Agriculture has also been recapitalised to support farmers.

The government says the decline could ease household expenses and strengthen food security, though it acknowledges more work is needed to stabilise prices nationwide. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
