The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) workers through affordable housing initiatives under the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, gave the assurance when he received the leadership of the NRC Workers’ Union in his office in Abuja.

Dangiwa emphasized that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to ensure that every dedicated Nigerian worker has access to decent and affordable housing, describing home ownership as a key pillar of national development.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is not just about constructing buildings; it’s about restoring dignity and giving every hardworking Nigerian worker a sense of belonging,” he said. “No worker should retire without a roof over their head.”

To facilitate access, the minister directed the union to compile and submit a list of members interested in the ministry’s housing programmes, noting that this would help integrate them into existing and upcoming housing projects across the country.

He also disclosed that the ministry is developing flexible financing frameworks to make home ownership easier for workers through mortgages and installment payment options.

Responding, the President-General of the NRC Workers’ Union, Comrade Innocent Ajiji, lauded the government’s renewed attention to workers’ welfare and assured the ministry of the union’s cooperation in implementing the initiative.

Analysts say the meeting reflects a shift towards a more structured and inclusive approach to housing delivery, prioritizing accessibility and affordability for Nigerian workers in key public sectors.

The Renewed Hope Housing Programme aims to bridge Nigeria’s estimated 28 million housing deficit by delivering thousands of affordable homes nationwide, targeting low- and middle-income earners.
