The Federal Government has announced the adoption of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), starting with objective papers for private candidates in November 2025. The government said full implementation for all subjects is planned for 2026, marking a major step in modernizing Nigeria’s education system.
According to officials, the policy aims to enhance exam credibility, reduce malpractice, and improve efficiency in grading. Mock sessions and online practice platforms are being introduced to help students transition smoothly from paper-based exams to the digital format.
The government is also partnering with WAEC, state authorities, and private CBT centres to ensure nationwide accessibility, including in rural areas. Efforts are being made to address infrastructure challenges such as electricity, internet connectivity, and computer availability, ensuring no candidate is left behind.
Education authorities emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to equip Nigerian students with digital skills and align the country’s education system with international standards. The move demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to modern, credible, and globally competitive assessment methods.
