The Federal Government has secured 100,000 hectares of land in Niger State to launch a major agricultural and rural development initiative. The land, officially handed over by the Niger State Government through a Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O), will serve as the foundation for the Sustainable Integrated Productive Communities (SIPC) Programme.
The initiative aims to modernize agriculture in Nigeria by combining large-scale mechanized farming, mass housing, renewable energy, agro-processing, and community enterprise development. Federal officials say the project aligns with national priorities on food security, job creation, poverty reduction, and inclusive economic growth.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State, who presented the C-of-O to federal representatives, described the project as a game-changer that would attract investment, increase food production, and create employment opportunities, especially for youth.
Federal authorities announced that work on the site will commence immediately, beginning with land preparation and large-scale cultivation. Beyond agriculture, the SIPC Programme is expected to establish productive, self-sustaining communities, reducing rural-urban migration and enhancing local infrastructure.
This move positions Niger State as a strategic hub for agricultural expansion and underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to modernizing Nigeria’s agricultural sector and strengthening national food security.
