The Federal Government has announced that the full year 2024 Budget Performance Report will be released by the end of September 2025, alongside consolidated reports for the first and second quarters of 2025. Going forward, the government said quarterly publications are expected to resume on schedule.

The Budget Office of the Federation (BoF), in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, explained that the delay in publishing the Budget Implementation Reports (BIRs) was due to two main factors which are extensive verification and reconciliation processes, and the transition to an extended fiscal framework. It noted that the verification exercise took longer than expected because of the nationwide spread of appropriated projects, which required field missions and reconciliations with implementing agencies.

The BoF further clarified that the reports are not mere accounting summaries but integrate expenditure data with physical verification of projects across the country. It added that transitioning to an extended fiscal framework also necessitated adjustments in timelines to prevent inconsistencies that could mislead stakeholders.

To bridge the gap, the Budget Office stated that a provisional 2024 Budget Performance Report, based on verified funding commitments, will be published by September 2025. It added that from the third quarter of 2025, all budget reports will be released on schedule in line with the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA). The office also disclosed that measures are being taken to strengthen monitoring systems, enhance collaboration with ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), and expand digital integration of expenditure and project data to improve transparency and accountability.
