The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has approved FIC Professionals Network Plc to participate in the World Bank-supported Identity for Development (ID4D) Ecosystem Enrolment Service in Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Segun Shonubi, Executive Director of FIC Professionals Network Plc, on Thursday. The ID4D Project aims to establish a secure and verifiable digital identity for every Nigerian, improving service delivery, governance, and access to opportunities in the digital economy.
According to Shonubi, FIC Professionals Network Plc—recognized as a key stakeholder in financial inclusion—was granted approval after meeting the required criteria. The company has previously partnered with the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) to introduce the Agency Banking Certification Programme for individuals seeking expertise in financial inclusion.
“The approval to participate was conveyed through a letter dated January 23, 2025, signed on behalf of the Director-General/CEO of NIMC, Engr. (Mrs.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote,” the statement read.
Shonubi highlighted the transformative potential of the Nigeria Digital ID4D Project, describing it as a bold and ambitious initiative that will revolutionize digital identification and access to essential services across Nigeria.
The World Bank has been a key financial supporter of the ID4D initiative, allocating $45.5 million to NIMC in June 2024. According to the World Bank’s implementation report, the funds have been disbursed in multiple tranches between December 2021 and April 2024, with further disbursements ongoing.
With FIC Professionals Network Plc now officially participating in the programme, the rollout of secure digital identities for millions of Nigerians is expected to gain further momentum.
