FIFA has banned Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), for six months due to his conduct during a Women’s Under-20 World Cup match. The ruling, announced on Monday, cited Eto’o for “offensive behavior, violation of the principles of fair play, and misconduct of players and officials.”

The charges stem from Cameroon’s last-16 match against Brazil in Bogota, Colombia, on September 11. Brazil won the game 3-1 after extra time, with tensions rising after a penalty awarded to Brazil led to their equalizer. Eto’o and the Cameroon delegation reportedly reacted strongly to the decision, leading to FIFA’s investigation.

As part of his punishment, Eto’o is prohibited from attending any Cameroon national team matches, whether men’s or women’s, across all age categories. However, the suspension does not affect his position as president of Fecafoot, where he continues to hold office.

This is not the first time the former Barcelona star has faced sanctions. In July, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) fined Eto’o $200,000 for an ethics violation related to a brand deal with an online gambling company. Additionally, earlier this year, Eto’o clashed with Cameroon’s sports ministry, calling their appointment of Belgian Marc Brys as the men’s national team coach “illegal.”

Eto’o, who was elected president of Fecafoot in 2021, now faces increasing scrutiny over his leadership amid these controversies.
