Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has described the defection of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a strategic partnership aimed at building a more functional and responsive nation. Speaking in Yola while formally receiving the governor into the party on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Shettima said the new entrants were not strangers but partners in a shared national mission.
Addressing a large crowd at Mahmud Ribadu Square, the Vice President noted that the move underscores the role of political leadership in strengthening democracy through decisions that promote stability and progress. He maintained that the APC has demonstrated progressive governance under President Tinubu and continues to attract support due to its vision, structure, and commitment to delivering results for Nigerians.
Shettima further described Governor Fintiri’s entry as a boost to the party’s intellectual and governance capacity, adding that his track record in infrastructure and public service reflects purposeful leadership. APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, also commended Fintiri’s achievements and welcomed his alignment with the ruling party’s agenda.
In his remarks, Governor Fintiri said his decision was driven by the need to align with the administration’s reform policies, which he noted are placing Nigeria on a path to recovery. He pledged support for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections and expressed confidence in delivering victory in Adamawa State, as the event concluded with the formal presentation of the party’s flag to him as state leader.
