FIRS Rejects Atiku’s Monopoly Claim on Xpress Payments

Share

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has dismissed allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that the government has granted Xpress Payments Solutions Ltd a monopoly over revenue collection under the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

Atiku had likened the arrangement to a revival of a private revenue “cartel,” warning it could place public funds under the control of politically linked interests.

In response, FIRS said the claim is misleading, stressing that no company has exclusive rights to government revenue channels. The agency noted that it uses multiple payment platforms including Remita, Quickteller, Etranzact, Flutterwave, and XpressPay under a competitive, multi-provider system.

FIRS added that these platforms do not collect fees or control government funds, as all payments go directly into the Federation Account. The agency urged political figures to avoid turning routine administrative processes into political controversy, especially amid ongoing national tax reforms. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
