The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced that it will soon launch the pilot phase of its proposed electronic invoicing (e-invoicing) and electronic valuation (e-valuation) solutions. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to modernize tax administration in Nigeria through digital innovation.
In preparation for the rollout, the agency has begun engaging stakeholders to discuss the e-invoicing and e-valuation solutions, which are designed to transform the country’s tax system. According to FIRS, these technological advancements aim to improve tax administration, boost compliance, and ensure greater transparency by accurately monitoring and assessing taxable goods and services.
During a stakeholders’ engagement meeting held in Lagos yesterday, Amina Ado, Coordinating Director of the Large Tax Group, emphasized the transformative potential of the National E-Invoicing Solution. Represented by Dr. Olabode Olatunji, Director of Large Tax, Telecoms, and Financials, she described the initiative as a strategic move to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in tax administration.
“Today’s engagement provides a crucial platform for dialogue, collaboration, and shared insights as we prepare for the pilot rollout of this solution,” she stated. “The e-invoicing system is not merely a technological upgrade but a strategic tool aligned with international best practices. It will ensure seamless tax compliance, reduce revenue leakages, and improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria.”
The pilot phase will initially involve selected large taxpayers, with the insights gathered guiding the broader implementation across various sectors. Ado added, “Through detailed presentations, discussions, and expert insights, we will explore how this solution integrates into your business operations and the wider tax ecosystem.”
Recognizing potential challenges in adopting the new system, she assured stakeholders of FIRS’s commitment to providing support. “FIRS is dedicated to offering the necessary guidance and assistance to ensure a smooth transition for all stakeholders,” she said.
Speaking to the media, Tayo Koleoso, Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, highlighted the agency’s focus on taxpayer engagement. “As we introduce this new innovation, which includes deploying an electronic invoice system—also known as a merchant buyers’ service solution—our goal is to collaborate with large taxpayers, understand their needs, and advance our journey toward what we call Tax Administration Solution 3.0,” he explained.
