First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on the global community to prioritize mental health and ensure access to support services, particularly for vulnerable groups.
In a statement marking World Mental Health Day, the First Lady emphasized that mental health is often overlooked in emergency and crisis responses. She stressed the importance of creating an environment where individuals can openly discuss conditions such as anxiety, depression, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder without fear of stigma or discrimination.
Highlighting the theme for this year, “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies,” the First Lady urged people to reach out and connect with those in need, especially during times of crisis. She emphasized the importance of advocating for the mental well-being of all affected by emergencies and disasters.
Her message reinforces the need for concerted action to bridge gaps in mental health services and to recognize mental health support as a fundamental right for all, particularly for the most vulnerable communities.
