The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged elderly citizens to stay healthy and active, particularly during the festive season. She made the remarks at the third edition of the RHI Elderly Support Scheme.

Senator Tinubu highlighted that the initiative, launched under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, honors Nigerians who have contributed significantly to nation-building and societal progress. She emphasized the moral duty of ensuring that senior citizens enjoy comfort, dignity, and good health in their later years.

“My advice to our senior citizens is to do all that is possible to find joy in old age. Ageing gracefully is not just about longevity but about being surrounded by love, support, and respect,” she said, urging the elderly to remain active and engaged in community and charitable work.

The First Lady disclosed that the scheme is supporting 250 vulnerable veterans aged 65 and above, with each receiving ₦200,000, totaling an estimated ₦1 billion nationwide. Beneficiaries also received food items as part of the programme, which aims to provide dignity, purpose, and a sense of belonging to Nigeria’s senior citizens.
