The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has issued a statement to mark the 2026 World Water Day.

This year’s theme, “Water and Gender,” accompanied by the campaign slogan “Where Water Flows, Equality Grows,” emphasizes the critical connection between access to water, sanitation, and gender equality. In many communities, women and girls shoulder the primary responsibility for collecting water, often traveling long distances to streams and sources, which can affect their education, health, and economic opportunities.

Senator Tinubu stated that ensuring safe, clean, and accessible water goes beyond quenching thirst; it also creates opportunities for girls to remain in school, allows women to engage in livelihoods, and promotes healthier lives for families.

She called on all Nigerians to work together to ensure that where water flows, equity truly grows.

The First Lady concluded her message by wishing Nigerians a Happy World Water Day.
