The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed confidence that the National Library of Nigeria, when completed, will become a modern, digitized national asset that reflects the country’s intellectual and cultural pride.
Senator Tinubu made the remark during her visit to the Qatar National Library in Doha, where she commended the facility as a model of excellence and innovation in knowledge preservation. She said Nigeria aims to draw inspiration from the library’s structure and operations to strengthen its own national library project.
The First Lady emphasized the importance of documenting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, noting that the younger generation must have access to accurate historical and cultural information. She highlighted the motto of the Qatar National Library, “Free Access to Knowledge,” describing it as a principle that aligns with Nigeria’s goal of inclusive education and literacy for all.
With over two million books and 500,000 e-books, the Qatar National Library, located in Education City, Doha, stands as a symbol of the country’s investment in education and culture. Senator Tinubu’s visit marked her first official engagement in Doha and preceded her scheduled meeting with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development.
During her upcoming engagement, the First Lady is expected to seek collaboration with the Foundation to support initiatives aimed at tackling the issue of out-of-school children and improving the Almajiri education system in Nigeria.
