First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has unveiled the OneNigeria/UnityFabric, a new symbol of national unity designed by 25-year-old Mofinyinfoluwa Bamidele, who won ₦25 million in a competition organized by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). The unveiling ceremony took place at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

The competition, inspired by Tinubu’s visit to Zimbabwe in December 2023, invited Nigerian youths aged 15-25 to create a design reflecting national unity. The winning design was selected from 111 entries by a panel including fashion icon Princess Zainab Abba Folawiyo and textile designer Miss Banke Kuku.

Tinubu emphasized that the fabric aims to unify Nigeria’s diverse cultures and foster national pride. The OneNigeria/UnityFabric will be mass-produced by local manufacturers and worn nationwide on Independence Day, October 1, 2024, to celebrate the country’s unity and stimulate local textile industries.

RHI’s National Vice Chairman and wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, highlighted the initiative’s focus on promoting unity and creativity. The project will produce 200,000 pieces, distributed across major cities and other key stakeholders. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including former First Ladies and high-profile guests.
