The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for a balanced and human-centred approach to the use of artificial intelligence in education, stressing that technology must serve humanity and not replace human agency.
In a message to mark the International Day of Education 2026, observed on January 24, the First Lady urged Nigerians to reflect on the year’s theme, “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation.” She described education as the most powerful tool for acquiring knowledge, values, creativity and ethical judgement required to thrive in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world.
Senator Tinubu noted that while innovation and artificial intelligence were transforming societies, humans must remain in control of technology, using it to advance development while preserving the values that define humanity.
She emphasised that Nigeria’s priority remained sustained investment in quality and inclusive education capable of empowering children and young people to think critically, act responsibly and embrace the future with confidence and compassion.
The First Lady reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to strengthening the education sector as a foundation for national development and human capital growth.
