At least five people, including a two-year-old child, have been confirmed dead following the crash of a Mexican Navy aircraft near the Galveston Causeway in Texas on Monday, December 22.

Mexico’s Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) disclosed in a translated statement that eight individuals were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident. The plane reportedly went down while operating in the vicinity of the busy causeway, prompting emergency response efforts.

According to SEMAR, the aircraft was engaged in a humanitarian medical mission for the Michou y Mau Foundation, an organisation dedicated to providing specialised care for Mexican children suffering from severe burn injuries.

Authorities in both Mexico and the United States have begun investigations to determine the cause of the crash, while support is being extended to the families of the victims. Further details surrounding the circumstances of the incident are expected as inquiries continue.
