Authorities in Florida say they are still investigating the death of professional wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, despite a medical examiner ruling his passing a result of natural causes. Hogan, born Terry Bollea, died on July 24 at age 71 after suffering a heart attack at his beachfront home in Clearwater. Paramedics and police responded to a 911 call, but Hogan was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to a hospital.
The Clearwater Police Department said Thursday that the “unique nature of this case” has required detectives to gather extensive medical records and interview multiple witnesses. While police have stressed there is no evidence of foul play, they confirmed that body camera footage and the 911 call will not be released until the investigation is complete. Investigators are also working closely with Hogan’s family, including his children Nick and Brooke, promising to brief them before making the findings public.
Hogan, considered one of the most iconic figures in WWE history, was a six-time world champion and the star of the first WrestleMania in 1985. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 and reinstated in 2018 after a temporary removal. A private funeral was held on August 5 in Largo, though cremation was delayed amid family questions surrounding his death. Earlier this month, Hogan’s daughter Brooke publicly called for an autopsy, saying her father’s “dignity and legacy deserve it.” No timeline has been given for when the police investigation will conclude.
