Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has alleged that Nigeria’s judiciary is deeply compromised, with many politicians depending more on judges’ rulings than on the will of the electorate. The claim was made in his newly released book, where he reflects on the country’s democratic journey.
According to Obasanjo, the disturbing trend has eroded public confidence in the judicial system, turning it into a decisive tool for political power rather than a neutral arbiter of justice. He warned that unless urgent reforms are undertaken, the judiciary risks losing credibility as the last hope of the common man.
The former president further argued that judicial compromise undermines democracy and emboldens corrupt political practices. He called for a sweeping overhaul of Nigeria’s judicial process to restore transparency, independence, and public trust.
