Aminu Tambuwal, the former Governor of Sokoto State, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Daily Trust confirms. Tambuwal was detained at the EFCC’s corporate headquarters on Monday over allegations of fraudulent withdrawal of approximately N189 billion during his time in office.

The EFCC had taken Tambuwal into custody to investigate the alleged misappropriation of funds while he served as governor. However, following questioning, he was released as the commission continues its probe into the matter.

This case forms part of the EFCC’s broader campaign to tackle corruption and financial impropriety among public officials in Nigeria. The commission is expected to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
