Fresh Protests Erupt in Adamawa Over Alleged Killings of Women by Soldiers During Communal Unrest

Fresh tension has gripped Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State after protesters stormed the streets on Tuesday, alleging that Nigerian Army personnel killed several women during operations in nearby Lamurde LGA. The incident comes on the heels of renewed communal clashes between the Bachama and Chobo communities on Monday.

Women protesters — many holding leaves as a traditional symbol of peace — blocked military movements into the area, accusing troops of taking sides and favouring the Chobo community in their intervention efforts. Their actions reflected growing frustration and distrust as violence between the two communities escalated.

Reports indicate that seven women were killed, while 11 others sustained injuries during a protest in Lamurde, where demonstrators had accused the military of arriving late to calm hostilities. The tragic deaths have further inflamed local anger, sparking fresh demonstrations in Numan and intensifying demands for accountability.

Authorities have not yet issued a detailed response to the allegations, but residents are calling for an independent investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the reported deaths and to restore trust between civilians and security forces.
