In a renewed effort to improve road safety across the country, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and construction giant Julius Berger Nigeria Plc have pledged to deepen their longstanding collaboration. The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by the FCT Sector Commander of FRSC, Felix N. Theman, to the corporate headquarters of Julius Berger in Abuja.

Speaking at the meeting, Commander Theman acknowledged Julius Berger’s consistent support over the years, including donations of traffic management tools such as reflective jackets and traffic cones that have strengthened FRSC’s operational capabilities. He emphasized that while the delivery of world-class infrastructure is essential, the human element discipline, patience, and safe driving behavior remains critical to achieving a sustainable road safety culture.

“Julius Berger is not only building roads but also contributing to safer road use. The next step is strengthening this partnership to drive home the message of responsible driving,” Theman said.

In response, Dr. Abdulaziz Isa Kaita, Director of Administration at Julius Berger, reaffirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to road safety and support for FRSC’s mission. He highlighted the firm’s proactive safety policies, which include:

Regular driver training and retraining programs

Defensive driving courses

Annual medical checks for drivers

Speed-limiting and weight-control devices installed in company vehicles

An accident-free incentive scheme for company drivers

Dr. Kaita also spotlighted Julius Berger’s use of Cold Recycling Technology on the Abuja-Kano Expressway, a cutting-edge, eco-friendly method of road rehabilitation that exemplifies the firm’s commitment to innovation and quality infrastructure.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Our partnership with FRSC ensures that our commitment to quality extends beyond construction into responsible road use,” he stated.

Both parties agreed to explore further areas of collaboration, including public awareness campaigns, joint safety audits, and enhanced community engagement.

Looking Ahead

This partnership signals a strategic move to combine the strength of public sector enforcement with private sector innovation. It reflects a shared vision: safer roads, reduced accidents, and a more disciplined driving culture across Nigeria.
