The former Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, has alleged that suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the bombing of the state House of Assembly complex in 2023.

Nwaeke’s Allegation Against Fubara

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Nwaeke claimed that Fubara orchestrated the attack to prevent impeachment by lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

“I was at the government house when a bag of money was handed over to Edison for that operation, though I do not know the amount inside,” Nwaeke alleged.

Wife Raises Distress Alarm: ‘That’s Not My Husband’

In a dramatic turn of events, Nwaeke’s wife, Florence, raised concerns on Friday night, insisting that the man who appeared in the interview was not her husband.

Speaking in an emotional interview with Channels TV, Florence claimed she had lost communication with him since his departure to Abuja.

“When he got to Abuja, he called to say he had landed safely. The next thing I saw was people calling me, saying he gave an interview. I was shocked. I said, ‘That is not my husband.’”

She revealed frantic efforts to reach him: “I sent him messages asking, ‘Are you under duress? Have they kidnapped you? Why are you not talking to me?’ But he hasn’t replied.”

Florence Appeals to Fubara for Help

Calling on Governor Fubara for intervention, she pleaded, “Governor, help me! My husband is in trouble. He resigned under duress.”

She alleged that her husband was pressured to sign documents implicating Fubara, leading to his resignation. “Instead of dealing with all this wahala, he decided to resign.”

Nwaeke Challenges Fubara to an Open Confrontation

In his interview, Nwaeke directly accused Fubara of orchestrating the attack on the Rivers State Assembly.

“I want to tell Rivers people today that the House of Assembly complex on Moscow Road was brought down by Edison Ehie under the instructions of Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” he claimed.

“I challenge him to an open confrontation, and I will provide more details.”

Nwaeke further alleged that there was an additional plot to demolish the lawmakers’ residential quarters but that public outcry, including from Rivers youths, elders, and National Assembly members, prevented the destruction.

“They wanted to demolish that second building. Fubara personally told me that had he known earlier, he would have pulled down their hall first before targeting the residential quarters.”

Expressing shock, Nwaeke questioned, “How can a leader destroy state assets and waste public funds on a needless ego fight?”
